November 2011 Members Attend District II Convention in Nocona

On November 1, nine GGC members journeyed to Nocona for the bi-annual District II convention. They were welcomed by cowboys on horses, since the theme was the Chisholm Trail. Members visited with members of other clubs in our district. A silent auction offered members chances to win a decorated cowboy hat along with door prizes. Members enjoyed lunch and presentation by a guest speaker. Our GGC president received national gardening awards for our club from the District II Director, one for our West Texas Street project and the other for our participation in the Plant It Pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Our greenhouse project chairman shared information about the Spring Texas Garden Club Convention to be hosted by the GGC and the Grapevine Botanical Gardens Greenhouse Project.

Arbor Day 2011

National Arbor Day is actually the last Friday in April, but in Grapevine the event was celebrated In January to coincide with city-wide Super Bowl activities. So on January 8, the Super Grow XLV event in Grapevine drew 130 volunteers who spent two hours planting 45 trees along Lake Grapevine. The event was sponsored by the Grapevine Parks Department and the North Texas SuperBowl Host Committee. Many Grapevine Garden Club members helped in the planting, and this photo shows them completing the planting of one of the trees.
